Transforming Church Culture Through Inclusion

Brooke Gulvas understands that for families impacted by disability, "coming home" to a church isn't always easy. As an educator, a former retail leader, and a mother to a child with multiple disabilities, Brooke has spent her life at the intersection of advocacy, leadership, and faith.

A Legacy of Advocacy

Growing up in Maryland as the daughter of a pastor and the sister to a brother with autism, Brooke saw firsthand the unique trials and triumphs of the disability community within the church. She witnessed the beauty of a supportive congregation, but also the gaps where understanding fell short. While her brother has since passed, his legacy is the heartbeat of JAM Agency—a mission born from the belief that every individual deserves a place to worship without judgment.

Turning Pain into Purpose Despite her deep roots in the church, Brooke experienced a heartbreaking shift when she began attending with her son.

“I never realized what it was like to feel like an outsider until we tried attending with our son. We were treated poorly in multiple churches because he was a little different. I was hurt, shocked, and in disbelief.”

Brooke decided that "disbelief" wasn't enough—she needed to create change. Leveraging her background as a pastor’s daughter, her 15 years in education and nearly a decade in leadership management, she now works tirelessly, committed to building a roadmap for systemic change.

Bridging the Gap: Through JAM Agency, Brooke brings a unique blend of "heart" and "systems" to her work. She doesn't just advocate; she educates.

  • For Church Leaders: She provides the tools and training necessary to move past the "fear of the unknown," helping leadership teams understand the diverse needs of the disability community.

  • For Families: She acts as a scout and an advocate, working to identify and partner with local communities that are willing to learn, grow, and truly open their doors.

A Place to Call Home Change is often uncomfortable, but for the body of Christ, it is a mandate. The disability community does not lack faith; in fact, these individuals often possess the strongest testimonies and are the most vibrant evangelists in our midst. What they lack is a place to call home—a sanctuary where they can worship freely, feel heard, and be seen as the essential members of the body they are.

“We must come together, carry one another’s burdens and joys, and love one another no matter our differences.” - Brooke Gulvas
